Steps for Certification ~ Catholic Postpartum Program--- MAIN OVERVIEW
Introduction to Certification
Welcome to Catholic Postpartum certification - if you have been trained elsewhere email us about cross certification options - thank you!
1. Resource List
Make a 10-20 Resource List for postpartum mothers
2. Book Reviews
We are reducing book reviews to 3 books. You may use required books for 3 of the book reviews. Highly suggested: "A Catholic Postpartum": See our Doula Shop for ebook download!
3. Postpartum Term List (New)
We have doula terms requirement for birth doula and we are just adding this on for postpartum doula. Please find 20-40 postpartum related doula terms.
4. Postpartum Interviews
There are 3 interviews mentioned - one about emotions, one about fathers or grandfathers and one regular postpartum mother. So, please interview these types for your final grading.
5. Case Studies and ASsignments
Case Studies and Assignments - we have a lot of assignments - so if you feel overwhelmed and want to test out of a particular area - feel free to email instructor or if you have life experience (bathing baby or baby care) - let us know and we will waive things. Thank you. Case studies should be one per module minimum.
6. Mini-Breastfeeding class - 2 options - optional if you are a mother experienced.
Take our M.O.M. advocate class included in cost of course - this is for experienced in breastfeeding. Or you may opt-in for breastfeeding basics which is in the works - so a breastfeeding book maybe substituted. We do mention Boost Your Breastmilk book (optional read) - so we recommend that book in one of our later modules.
8. WORK WITH POSTPARTUM FAMILIES (NEW) -- 10 HOURS OR ONLINE SUPPORT IS ALLOWED - "2O21" UPDATE - this can be part of your community project as well!
You need to work with postpartum families can be from two families up to 4 if so desired. Hours can be 10 hours or more. We encourage more. We are now allowing for online support of families. Or you can do the community project instead - and let us know you are unable to find someone to work with. Thank you.
9. COMMUNITY PROJECT
We have similar requirement in birth class. However, we have like a mother roasting project, healing herbs or tinctures and more that you can do for this project for postpartum doula. Think of one way you would like to honor a mother in your community or do a self-pampering day is allowed. We also can include bone closing rebozo as part of this project. You also will need to make a blog or website up and list some of your resources on it. Thank you.
9. Attend the Doula Circle instead of a requirement
If you are a busy doula and need to do less - we can waive a requirement (not community project - but an interview or something else) and you can attend our doula circle - one meeting included in cost of self-pace. Thanks!
OPtional - Rebozo class
Postpartum rebozo class is tentative or will be part of our on demand session - this will be a postpartum bone closing ceremony information. Thanks. More info coming soon!
