We have a directory is now Catholic Doula Network: https://catholicdoulanetwork.weebly.com Death doula work is nothing new as this has been done for centuries - probably just had different names. Why is death care so important now? I think we have gone too modern - the funeral "casket" that's fancy and expensive. I remember my dad's funeral. There were pall bearers carrying this white casket to and from the church and then it was put deep into the ground on my mom's property. I remember throwing dirt onto the casket. But, did you know you can be buried a different way? You can be buried in a shroud only and have your family spare the expense of a casket all together? There are even places that encourage what we call "green burial." I was thinking about how the Mexican Rebozo Shawl can be used at birth for the mama and baby, but it also could be used at death to wrap it around the body one last time and even be buried with that family member if so desired. I want a green burial or at least as much as possible. I don't want a fancy casket, I want to be buried with a rebozo wrapped around me as part of the shroud (most likely with sheets as well.) I want herbs also surrounding my body. Have you thought about what you want for your own funeral or death? Anyway, we discuss these kinds of things in our upcoming death doula course. I think I want the first session to be intimate and a live class with some guest speakers that I hope to invite in. Anyway, I don't know exact dates when I'll get this together - I am giving myself "grace" to take time to study all of this first.
