Certification Checklist for Fast-track doula

1. Review at least 3-4 Birth related books – one should be breastfeeding related. Note: if you are co-enrolled as a DONA student - we will accept their book list!

Choose from these books: (We can work with other books - if you do not have any of these - we are flexible).
• The Gift of Birth (required in our Self-Pace Program)
• The Birth Partner Book by Penny Simkins (classic book - be aware the 5th edition has inclusive language in it -so try for older edition).
*The Nurturing Touch at Birth by Polly Perez (our original program  used this book).
• A Catholic Mother's Companion
• Made for This (Catholic Pregnancy)
• Walking with Mary from Conception to Birth by Sarah Reinhard (highly recommend)
• Prayerfully Expecting: A Nine-Month Novena for Mothers
• Breastfeeding Made Simple
• Boost Your Breastmilk
• Breastfeeding Guide to Making More Milk
• Mother Food Book (Breastfeeding and herbs)
* Any of the Dr. Sears Books
*Recall Abortion
*These Walls are Talking by Abby Johnson
• A Catholic Postpartum by Julie Larsen
• Doing Business the Doula Way by Julie Larsen and Lisa Van der Wilt
• The Comfort in Birth Method by Julie Larsen – also this is the required text for the class.
* The Joyful Mysteries of Childbirth by Marlene W.
*"Made for This" by Mary Haseltine

2. Case Studies & Quizzes

2. Complete 5 case studies from the modules and pass module quizzes. (These will be from our current fast-track - so instead of doing all assignments - they are waived and I'll be making up a quiz over each module so you can finish super faster). You are free to do any extra assignments if so desired for points if you don't like quizzes - let us know!

3. Complete a community project assignment – see below:

You need to do at least 3 items below:
choose 3 things to do:
(Note: There should be one item that will take a few hours to do or we will not approve it - so make sure you pick like 2 easy things and one harder item).
• start a website or blog about being a doula
• make a list of 20 resources for mothers
• make a list of “birth/doula” terms (at least 50 terms - abbreviations can count)
• journal about being a doula in training (post one journal on a blog, website, or social media site)
• write an essay on doula work - why you are becoming a doula.
• Complete a timeline history assignment about childbirth and doula work.
• Complete a food diary with a mother.
*Do the P.E.A.C.E. Project - can send information on this.
*Complete a Comfort in Birth Method Enrichment form with a mother.
• Offer a baby shower or blessing way for a mother.
• Help a crisis pregnancy center by volunteer hours (like 5-10 hours).
• Attend a childbirth class in person or virtually.
• Attend a breastfeeding class in person or virtually.
*Come up with your own idea and email us for approval.
• Attend a real birth in person.
• Attend a birth via virtual distance support.
• Remember only 3 above need to be chosen – if you have an idea – you can ask us to approve it. Births; We will count up to one year before you signed up for our class – as long as you took good notes and can contact the mother you birthed with for her to sign off you attended. Again, a birth is not necessary to receive certification – do something else if you need to.

4. Interview three mothers about their birth experience.

The mothers should be at least one or two natural births and one or two can be medicated birth. We will only accept one story of a c-section birth. A VBAC story would be very encouraged. If you need some question ideas email us for that. Thank you.

5. Attend the Live training and do the worksheets for rebozo/comfort

5. Learn rebozo skills and comfort measures from the live class and turn in skills sheet.
If attending the "Live" class - you will be able to go through and view the rebozo basic skills and basic comfort techniques. Then all you have to do is practice with a friend/family member 6 of the basic rebozo and/or comfort techniques (combo of both is fine). Send in your skills sheet to check this certification item! Then you are done!! This may also include a couple of birth ball techniques. We recommend purchasing a birth ball that fits your height right. If you need help on that a
