As a B.O.O.B. Educator you will be able to teach mothers/parents about breastfeeding practices.
Educators can work in various places or you can also start your own education classes.
As a B.O.O.B. Peer Counselor - you may use your skills as one-on-one help for mothers with lactation issues - you maybe the first person she can call upon for help. This is great for doulas who want more breastfeeding knowledge to start helping mothers. And you also learn when to refer out for harder cases!
This course pairs well with doulas, postpartum doulas, Newborn Care Specialist, etc. So, if you are wanting to add in breastfeeding - this is a good place to start!

I have decided to wait on the ALPP Exam official application because I need specific interest in that first and I'd have to provide 45 CERP's which is out of our reach right now - however, we will still cover ALPP exam points in our course. We cannot guarantee a specific amount of CERP's at this time for the March session. We are not allowed to advertise a specific amount. However, we can aim at getting you some for attending. 10 plus module course.....
In Module One you will go over the breastfeeding educator position you have, the books you will need, the different foods that are helpful and positions that are common in childbirth.
Module Two covers SCIENCE behind breastmilk. We discuss making milk including different foods that are important when it comes to breastfeeding.
Module Three discusses the ancient practices, our history of women breastfeeding, we talk about historical remedies and different cultures.
In Module Four we talk about latching, interferences on milk supply, we also discuss mastitis and other breastfeeding issues.
Module Five covers issues with baby and breastfeeding, things like tongue ties, sucking problems and 'milk slumps'.
Module Six goes over hormones, foods and herbs that some of the books you read recommends.
Module Seven and Eight is a Combo Module. While we go over more nutrition since its an important step in breastfeeding we discuss the mindfulness that plays a part in breastfeeding. There includes some discussion on setting up your own class and educator lesson plans.
With Module Nine being your final class we discuss your final project to certify, how to lead a group classes, etc.

Module 10 - Breastfeeding Counseling Skills - this is where you will need book #4- Counseling the Nursing Mother: A Lactation Consultant's Guide 3rd Edition to do this section of the course.
Module 11- Breastfeeding Management: Commercial Products/WHO/UNICEF info - need for ALPP exam
Module 12 - Weaning the baby - plus continuing an herbal studies - continuing studies for ALPP
Module 13 - Public Health and Professional Scope/Ethics of practice will be covered - plus any other herbal studies (for extra herbal certificate)
Module 14 - Herbal Studies - Part A: module (optional for those not doing this part) - How to make herbs or whatever we need to cover for this section.
Module 15 - Herbal Studies-Part B: module (optional for those not doing this part) - Continue herbal coverage for the special certificate. The herbalist add-on if you want particular CEU's, etc. may cost a fee at the end of class - otherwise we are adding in complimentary for short time.
Module 16: Special Circumstances for baby or mother (we may need an extra module - we do cover mother things - but this would be more for special needs babies, etc.) - This might be optional if we cover it in another module.
If we need to add anything extra into the herbal modules to cover anything else - we will do so. Thank you.

–5. A Mother’s Garden of Galactagogues by Hilary Jacobson – We are adding in as required reading and may have some areas in the course where we cover part of this book – you can opt-out if low income/financial need. We will add “lactation herbalist” certificate if you finish projects for this book.

Does this CLASS cover ALPP? What does it qualify for? Etc....
We spoke with ALPP - so our class does not fit in their provider list because they require a lot of things. The ALPP require us to have 45 CERP's from IBCLC - since we do not have those - we are only offering partial coverage from our course - we do cover as much as possible ALL the ALPP points - but we are not an official provider at this time. This means if you really want a CLC designation you would still have to take more course work - sorry about that. For now, we want to be honest and up front. But after all this is just a "designation" - you can work as a breastfeeding educator, specialist and peer counselor without the CLC- trademarked title!! Is a mother really going to care about your credentials - she just wants your help!!

We are hoping to get you the 4 CERP's (IBCLC) for March session and future sessions for the year of 2023-early 2024 - and hopefully, we can renew it each year as a short term provider for now. As above other question - we CANNOT give you a CLC designation as that is a Trademarked and I will do NOT want to get in trouble with anyone over trademarks. So, here's what we CAN offer you instead:

4. If taking herbalist info add in- BOOB herb-lactation specialist
Once you finish our course - you may use any of above 3-4 titles when working with clients. I think that is sufficient!!

What are the Certification REquirements?
We outline most of that in our FREE module ONE sample - so please use contact form above to receive a sample. Basically, do our quizzes, community project, work with a mother for certain amount of hours, breastfeeding interviews, terms/definitions, etc. Thank you.
Are there any Live Classes?
We are planning a spring live zoom class - however, since we are adding more to this class - we plan to cover the main basic information up to module 9 (maybe module 10) for sure in the live class - with option to opt-in (no extra charge) for the other modules that will be extra to read through, etc.
We will probably meet around 7 times for the class and squeeze it all into those dates/times.
If I can include more during the live time slots - then I will - but I can guarantee the first 9 (maybe 10) modules for now. That portion will cover MOST of the counselor information and ALL of the educator information. Thank you.
